Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini on Sunday interacted with families of the Haryana diaspora in Mumbai as part of the ‘Happening Haryana 2.0’ international outreach and Global Capital Campaign, urging Haryanvis settled outside the state to remain connected with their motherland and contribute to its growth beyond merely investing money.
 
Saini described the diaspora as Haryana’s “extended strength” and ambassadors of its positive identity, saying their experience, expertise, business networks, and resources could help shape opportunities for the state’s youth, entrepreneurs and institutions.
 
The interaction came during the three-day investor summit in Mumbai, being held from August 23 to 25. The Haryana Government expects Memorandums of Understanding worth more than Rs 66,000 crore to be signed during the summit as part of its investment-push and engagement with the business community and Haryanvi diaspora.
 
Saini said Haryana’s relationship with Mumbai was not merely about birthplace and workplace, but a shared bond of values, hard work, opportunity and ambition. Haryana, he said, had instilled discipline and resilience in its people, while Mumbai had provided a platform to convert talent into opportunity.
 
“I have not come to you asking only for investment, but also for ideas and participation,” Saini told the diaspora, seeking their involvement in mentoring students and startups, supporting sportspersons, connecting women’s self-help groups with markets and taking Haryana’s products to Mumbai and global markets.
 
He said Haryana was moving beyond its traditional agriculture-based identity, with industry, services, technology, startups, logistics, sports, education and innovation emerging as key growth pillars.
 
The government, he said, was working to expand quality education, skills and employment opportunities for rural youth while helping farmers adopt technology, processing, branding and exports and integrating MSMEs with larger supply chains.
 
Saini highlighted Mumbai’s strengths in artificial intelligence, fintech, media and entertainment, design, electric mobility, clean energy, sports management, agri-tech and global services, saying these could be leveraged for Haryana’s development.
 
He proposed creating a platform connecting Haryanvi youth in Mumbai with students, startups and institutions in Haryana to facilitate knowledge-sharing and mentorship.
 
The Chief Minister also urged the diaspora to pass on Haryana’s language, culture and traditions to the next generation, assuring them of continued engagement with the state. “Haryana is not far from you,” Saini said, stressing that the state would stand with its people “like a family” in happiness, adversity, opportunity and responsibility.
