There was massive footfall in the markets of Chandigarh on Saturday on the occasion of Dhanteras. All the markets in the city have been decked up for the festival season.

The Chandigarh State AIDS Control Society (CSACS) organized the ‘RED RUN’, a 5 km awareness run aimed at combating HIV/AIDS, at Sukhna Lake on Saturday in which around 250 students from 25 colleges took part in the run, which was designed to raise awareness about HIV/AIDS and promote healthy lifestyles among the youth.

Despite being a cold day with the sun playing hide and seek, people went out to enjoy the day at Sukhna Lake on Friday. Cold conditions persisted in Haryana and Punjab with Chandigarh recording a minimum of 5 degrees Celcius.

In a first, the Municipal Corporation, Chandigarh, on Saturday celebrated its ‘Zero Waste Annual Day’ with city’s Mount Carmel Convent School. During the event at Tagore Theatre, no plastic was used, all decorations were of flowers, which were composted on the campus, toilets were clean, food waste was transported to the waste processing facility
