Sirsa: Senior Congress leader and Sirsa MP, Selja on Monday urged the Haryana government to conduct a special girdawari to assess crop losses caused by unseasonal rains and hailstorms and provide compensation to affected farmers. Expressing concern over the difficulties faced by farmers across the state, Selja said adverse weather may have damaged paddy and other crops in parts of Sirsa and Fatehabad districts, including Rania, Dabwali, Ding, Ratia and Tohana. She called for an immediate assessment of losses in these and other affected areas. Selja said paddy lying in mandis was getting wet due to rain, while delays in procurement and lifting were adding to farmers’ problems. She urged the government to ensure adequate sheds, tarpaulins, proper drainage and timely lifting of produce to prevent further damage.
