Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini on Monday called upon people to uphold the ideals of social harmony, equality and brotherhood, saying that eliminating caste-based discrimination and social inequality would be a true tribute to Maharishi Valmiki. The Chief Minister was addressing the state-level celebration of Maharishi Valmiki's birth anniversary, here.

On the occasion, he announced financial assistance of Rs. 31 lakh for the Valmiki hostel under construction in Hisar. He also said he would visit the site soon for the foundation-laying ceremony. Saini urged everyone to resolve to eliminate all forms of discrimination and strengthen the bonds of social harmony. He emphasised that collective efforts were essential to building an inclusive society in which every section could participate in the state's development.

Saini said Haryana's three crore people must work together to accelerate the state's progress. Promoting unity, equality and mutual respect, he added, would help Haryana move towards a more inclusive and developed future. Following the ideals of Maharishi Valmiki and working collectively for the welfare of society would be the true tribute to the great sage.

He said that the State Government is providing scholarships, coaching for competitive examinations and hostel facilities to students belonging to Scheduled Castes (SCs) to ensure that financial constraints do not hinder their education and career prospects. Highlighting the progress of youth from the SC community, Saini said 604 candidates from the community had been selected during the recent Haryana Police recruitment process,  adding that young people from the community were progressing and reaching new heights.
