The Chandigarh Municipal Corporation’s General Election to 35 wards will be held before the expiry of the term of the present House on January 7, 2027, with the reservation of wards for various categories now finalised. 
According to an official statement, the State Election Commissioner, UT Chandigarh, has reserved seven wards for Scheduled Caste (SC) candidates, including three wards for SC women, while nine wards have been reserved for Women (General).

The reservation proceedings were conducted on Friday at the UT State Guest House in the presence of representatives of recognised national political parties, members of the public and officers of the Chandigarh Administration. The seven wards reserved for SC candidates were determined in descending order based on the highest percentage of SC population in each ward, as per the published Census 2011 data. The seven wards reserved for SC candidates in the December 2021 Municipal Corporation election were excluded from the exercise. Through a draw of lots, Ward Nos. 3, 29 and 32 were reserved for women belonging to the Scheduled Castes. Another nine wards—2, 8, 11, 13, 17, 21, 25, 26 and 30—were reserved for Women (General).

The proceedings were presided over by State Election Commissioner Vijay Dev, in the presence of Special Commissioner, Municipal Corporation, Harpreet Singh Sudan; ADC Amandeep Singh Bhatti; Joint Secretary, Local Government, Isha Kamboj; and representatives of various political parties. The seven SC-reserved wards are 1, 3, 4, 9, 15, 29 and 32. The remaining 19 wards have been declared General wards.
