Chandigarh: UT Senior Superintendent of Police Kanwardeep Kaur on Wednesday led a door-to-door awareness campaign as part of the “Drug-Free India” initiative in Sector 52. During the drive, houses of persons allegedly involved in drug peddling and those previously booked under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act in Sector 52 were checked and verified. The houses were thoroughly searched, while the antecedents of such persons were also verified by the police team. The SSP interacted with residents and sensitised them about the harmful effects of drug abuse. Residents were encouraged to remain vigilant and share information regarding drug peddling, consumption and other drug-related activities with the Chandigarh Police. She appealed to people to promptly inform the police about any information related to drug peddling, consumption or other drug-related activities through the designated helplines. The identity of the informer will be kept confidential.
